Atthaya Thitikul, from rookie to number 1

Good morning everyone! Today, Slazenger Heritage, your vintage sportwear store, will tell you about Atthaya Thitikul. The new number one Thai star of the “Top World Golfers” in the female category. Despite the great Asian dominance in the world of golf (the Women’s World Top 10 is occupied 5 out of 10 positions by this hegemony). Thitikul has managed to stand out and everything indicates that she will be the next queen of golf.

THE INTRODUCTION OF ATTHAYA THITIKUL TO THE WORLD OF GOLF

The young Thai woman says that she started this sport to improve her health conditions. “When I was growing up, I always got sick when the weather changed. My dad wanted me to play sports to help improve my health, and he offered me a choice between tennis and golf, two that could be turned into a career in the future.”

 “I thought that tennis was going to be difficult and hard because you have to run all the time. So I chose golf and at the age of six they took me to learn from professionals. I liked it a lot and I never stopped practicing it again. Although I realized that I didn’t it’s as easy as I thought. In tennis, you have to use your whole body. In golf, you use your body and your mind.”

From the beginning  she standed out and demonstrated her talent in fields at national level. Then, she managed to make the leap to play as an amateur in the American Honda LPGA Thailand. And she subsequently landed in European tournaments, such as the Ladies European Thailand Championship, in which she made history.

ATTHAYA THITIKUL’S ACHIEVEMENTS

A few weeks ago,Atthaya Thitikull from Thailand achieved the number 1 position in the female category of the renowned Rolex rankings, surpassing another favorite, Jin Young Ko. This impressive feat places Atthaya in the sixteenth spot to ever reach that position. She is also in second place in the world ranking, just behind Ariya Jutanugarn.

Atthaya has accomplished several notable feats in recent times. She became the second golfer to reach number 1 in her debut year on the LPGA Tour, following Sung Hyun Park in November 2017. Additionally, Atthaya’s young age of only 19 years makes her the second player under the age of 20 to achieve the top spot, matching the record set by New Zealand’s Lydia Ko. With such an impressive resume, Atthaya Thitikull is certainly a rising star in the world of golf.

QUICK TROPHY OVERVIEW ALONG HER CAREER

Reviewing her trophies throughout her career, she stands out when in 2017 she won the Ladies European Thailand Championship as an amateur.

This crowned her the youngest golfer ever to win a professional golf tournament, at just 14 years.

Later, at the age of 16, she also led the position as number one in the amateur category for 12 weeks, in 2019. And to make matters worse, during this period, from 2017 to 2021, she has managed to win four tournaments in the Ladies European Tour.

With a whopping number of trophies and victories behind her, Atthaya Thitikul continues tirelessly adding victories throughout her career.

This season, in addition to being considered the fastest rising star in golf history. She has won two LPGA Tour events: the JTBC Classic in March and the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in September.
